I have a whirlpool dryer that stopped heating up. I know it is the heating element, but where is it and how do I get to it? The model number is LXE7800W2. Maybe an online manual or something? I have been waiting for my husband to fix it for 3 wks, and I am sick of going to the laundrymat.

I have Maytag's and use them all of the time. You can also get a good price on the heater.

Thanks Wisdomwoman, there is no sexual bigotry in you is there. Not all men are jerks, just like not all women are "nice". I've been married 34 years to the same woman and if she heard you slam men generically like that you'd have your hands full. Maybe you should gain a little more wisdom.

how do you know that the heating element is bad? have you already checked the fuses or circuit breakers? if you have the 2) 30 amp cartridge type fuses, replace them both for about $5.00. if you have a circuit breaker, flip both of them off and then back on. next check the switches on the back splash to be sure the dryer isn't set for air fluff. if all of that checks out good, then it MIGHT BE the heating element. still no big problem, borrow or buy, for about $10-15.00, a multi meter if you don't have one. you can get one at h d, lowes, or the local hardware store. pull the dryer out from the wall and unplug it. remove the screws around the back cover and on the lower right is the heater. set the meter to ohms, it looks like an upsidedown U, and touch the two probes to the two terminals of the heater. if the meter needle moves all the way up, your heater is good. if the meter doesn't move, it's bad. take the model # and call an appliance parts store, a sears parts center, or order one on line. when you get it just put the wires back on the same way they came off. the heater shouldn't cost you much over $50.00. whirlpool makes one of the better, affordable dryers out there and they are easy to repair, and parts are affordable, too. while you have the dryer vent off of the dryer, have the hubby clean it out, too. fire hazard, and you'll save money and time doing the laundry. while i'm at it, if your dryer squeeks, squeals, or thumps when it is running, they make a rebuild kit for it. it's simple to install, comes with good instructions, (with pictures for the hubby), and you can put it in in about an hour. i just did mine two weeks ago and it runs like a new dryer. just ask for a noisey dryer kit, belt, idler pulley, and drum rollers are in the kit. now, as far as fixing the hubby, send him to the laundromat once and your dryer will be up and running next week!! good luck, hope this helps!

I had problems with my dryer a few months ago and ended up buying a new one. I'm not big on laundrymats either, I really hope this helps you...

It's usually in the back of the dryer. Just take your make and model # to a place where you can buy appliance replacement parts -- tell them the problem and they will sell you the part needed.

Make sure you have lots of room to work and it's UNPLUGGED. Start by taking off the back access panel, then start on the front. I just started taking it apart and laying it out across my kitchen in the order it came off. Most important thing is to sketch out (or take a digital picture) of how the belt runs around the pulleys.

Important into -- After you get the new part installed. Plug it in to make sure that you corrected your problem. Then make sure you UNPLUG it before you start putting it back together.

Go girl -- you can do it !!!

Secret I've learned over the years --- you don't need a penis to turn a screwdriver !!!!

I've taken mine apart three times over the years. Twice for heating elements and once for a broken belt. Plan on about 3 hours or so and try not to have any "lttle helpers" underfoot !!!!!

Dryers can be quite difficult to fix & often times the parts cost as much as a new dryer.
Dryers use a lot of electricity & if you have not done everythig correctly you could cause a short, blow a fuse, etc...
My boyfriend repaired my dryer & when he plugged it in it shocked the hell out of him, blew all of my fused & kicked off all of the main circuit breakers for my entire 400 apartment apartment complex!
A professional repairman may be expensive but is probably the wisest decision.

You can go to www.whirlpool.com . They will tell you what you need. Also if you want it fixed tell your hubby to fix it or you'll call someone who can, or tell him to do his own laundry.
Better yet, buy the book called "How to fix almost anything" and fix it yourself. That's what I did.

A repairman is cheaper than a long term laundermat. If you can afford one, it's your best shot.
Good luck
