i wash mine when i think they need it , hasn't ruined them yet , i just use hot soapy water , rinse , dry and put a little bit of lard on the inside and smooth it out using a paper towel , you can also use cooking oil

You should never wash an iron skillet with soap. Here is the best way to season your iron skillet if it has been washed with soap.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Lower both oven racks to bottom positions-line lower rack with foil to catch drippings.
Wash skillet inside and out with mild detergent using a stiff brush.
Rinse and towel dry.
Spread a thin coat of melted solid shortening all over skillet including handle (both inside and outside).
Place skillet on top rack.
Bake for 1 hour. Turn oven off and leave skillet in oven until cool.
Do not store lids on pots to all air circulation.
Do not wash skillet with soap or you will need to re-season.

If you do not want to re-season the skillet, you shouldn't wash it. If you do decide to wash the skillet for any reason, make sure you dry it thoroughly to prevent rust. The best way to do this is to put into a warm oven until it is completely dry. Then re-season the skillet before putting it away.

It should never be washed with soap and water on the inside. That will only remove the seasoning. Wipe with cooking oil and a dry cloth to clean. Useing acidic foods like tomato products remove the seasoning also.

We wash ours after each use. I hand wash it in the sink (not dishwasher) & then dry it by putting it back on the burner with a low heat. Never had a problem in years.
BTW you can re-season your iron skillet if necessary.

Never. Wipe it out with a clean paper towel. If you must wash it, use as little water and soap as possible. Use salt with the paper towel if there is cooked on food. Washing it destroys the seasoning.

My mother and grandmother both taught me how to wash them, you do not have to use soap. Most sops now have antibacterial agents, and they are not good for people. Too much exposure will actually take good bacteria away. I would always wash with warm water and dry it in the oven. If you do wash with soap, you may want to start over, by putting it in a fire, to get rid of all the soap. Eventually your food might start to taste weird with all the products you are putting in your cookware.

As often as needed. Just make sure you dry it on the burner on high heat until completely dry. Then put cooking oil on a paper towel and re-coat the pan.

you can use soapy water and a scotch pad (I use the ones that have the rough and soft side). Dry the skillet immediately and spray with pam or put a light coat of oil on it. Sometimes I put it one a burned, sometimes I dont.
