I think the right woman would be fine. Yes the president does have a ton of power but, leaders of other countries know that the advisers are the force behind many of the presidents actions. And besides all the Muslim countries hate us and they are actually the ones with a problem with women taking any sort of a leadership role. Many not all Muslims hold women down. Leaders that is. But if she is well qualified and can do what is best for this country go for it. I seriously hope you are not considering Hillary Clinton. She is not the right woman for it. Peace out............

I don't want a women president if the person is unable to perform the duties of one. Voting a women president just for the sake of having one is just plain wrong. Maybe some countries may deal with a women more different than with a male, possibly in the middle east where women lack the rights that the west have. But it just depends on how the women president acts. You can't have respect unless you earn it.

Israel and England have both had female heads of state. This never diminished their effectiveness in the eyes of their people or the world. The USA is absolutely ready for a female president, a black president, and even a Jewish president. As a conservative, I just don't happen to agree they ought to be Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, or Charles Schumer. I could accept Condi Rice (double threat) or Arlen Specter.

i don't think it would really make much difference, the developed world would treat a president of any race or gender seriously.

I just hope for competent politicians.

As i try to think of nations that would not take a woman president seriously all i come up with are 3rd world nations where either a form of religious bigotry exists or underdeveloped countries that need our aid. In either case i can't see where the attitude could be any worse from such nations than it is now.

Only if she is qualified. Right now there are many countries that have already lost respect for US, so I don't see much difference if we did have a woman as president.
Your question and some of the answers given make me realize just why we still have women's lib groups though - the mindset of many Americans who still have to think gender (or race) before making a decision is astonishing.

I won't deny some countries are like that. You're right. But they aren't taking us serious as of now either. And many won't take us serious no matter who runs our country.
One of these days a good enough woman will come along who is willing to run the country.I can think of many who would make good presidents, but then you come up with the problem that they really don't want to deal with all the idiots in this world. And I totally don't blame them.

I'm really worried about that. I think that some countries won't respect the US anymore. But i really agree to have a female President to the US.

If they represent "We the People" sure. The fear you have is the conservative in you that has this image of a leader more as a father figure or protector and a woman seems less likely to keep you safe. Other countries might snicker at a woman leader but the policies are what mater.

The U.S is THE global superpower at the moment. We should not be worried about other countries taking US seriously, it's their problem. If you're refering to Muslim countries, the Qur'an does not imply that women are somehow less intelligent/capable than men. It does state that men and women are equal in the eyes of god. Most Muslim countries have women in their governments, although not in the topmost tier.

I think quite the opposite. We need to be the first to take that step. Women are not discriminated against in other first world countries therefore it would be another step for them and us to have a women president.
