First: multiply the 1st and 3rd coefficient to get "-105." Find two numbers that give you "-105" when multiplied and "8" (2nd/middle coefficient) when added/subtracted. The numbers are: "15 & -7"

Sec: rewrite the expression including the new middle coefficients...

3f^2 + 15f - 7f - 35

Third: when you have 4 terms - group "like" terms and factor both sets of parenthesis...

(3f^2 + 15f) - (7f - 35)

3f(f + 5) - 7(f + 5)

(f + 5)(3f - 7)
