I am 19, single, and I have two little girls, I will qualify for FAFSA because of my income level.

I just think it's really daunting and scary. But I want a good future for my daughters and myself. But I am worried about paying for daycare while I'm in class and just being able to afford everything. I know the grant will not pay for everything.

So should I go?

you can get loans that WILL pay for everything, and they are worth it... you can subsudized loans (so that you don't have to pay interest until later) b/c of your income. I would say AT LEAST get an associates degree or some kind of technical degree. I think part-time is best if you have kids, but you chose full-time, don't expect to get a part-time job on top b/c then you'll never see your kids. it's all very manageable. i think parents actually do better than other students in school b/c we are forced to be more efficient and organized. think about your kids future. you DON'T want to live paycheck to paycheck, you DO want to provide your kids with everything they need in life without having to look at the price tag all the time.

there is a program thru DHS that pays for daycare while u are in school. I went FT and worked PT and they paid for the daycare.. As long as the facility is licensed.. (I went to school M, W, F and worked T and Th).. SOme states have single parent grants.. Going to college is NEVER a bad idea.. Have u considered a community college for the first 2 years.. u can get in all ur basics and save a LOT of money.. then transfer.. If u don't go now, u will be my age (mid 30's) and regret not going.. U can always apply for food stamps... u should get them.. Ur taxes pay for it. U can also take out a loan..sub and unsub.. IT will tough financially for a while but look at the big picture.. Also try websites like fastweb.com/scholarship.com.. GL

Some colleges have daycare centres so you should look into that. I think you should go! It'll be good for you and your family. College is less daunting and scary than being a single mom with two daughters at the age of 19. I know I couldn't do that, but college? That's the easy part! Good luck!

What are you doing right now? Is it any better, or is it just that college is an unknown to you? If you can raise two little girls alone at 19, you can do just about anything. I understand your fears, but don't let them stop you from making something of your, and your daughters', lives. Even if you have to take out loans to pay for daycare, think of it as an investment in their future. And look into what is available out there to help you. I have a lot of admiration for people like you who got a rough start and want to turn things around, and I think a lot of people do.

My parents came from Cuba 50 yrs ago with the clothes on their back and 4 kids; my dad was an engineer my mom was a pharmacist. In the US they would not accept their university studies credentials; at age 45 and 50 they started college again, worked 2 jobs each, put us in private schools, we all went to college and we are all very well to do now.Never asked anyone for help but instead helped everyone. If you underestimate yourself nothing will become of you. So, yes, go to college and teach your children that life is better as a professional and reap the benefit of your success. The one thing that I have seen about American education is that they underestimate the power and resilience of their offspring's.
Out of 100 Cuban American children that enter kindergarten in the USA 95 graduate from college. A mind is not to be wasted and anyone can take everything away from you but no-one can take your education away.
