I'm now waiting to have mtf surgury. I don't think too much will change except I had previously been a successful heterosexual male and now I'm a chick. After the surgury I'll be very happy.
The idea has inspired a deep and profound love in me.

I'm pre-op too. It seems the post-ops around here haven't gotten to this one yet. With transitioning myself and from what I've heard from others, it's a very positive experience. Finally being ok living in one's own skin. Being happier. A sense of purpose for life. etc. There's probably a sense of finality with it, which can be good and bad. I know of someonewho had their surgery and really turned inward trying to figure out what to do with their life. It can become so consuming that people forget about other parts of their life. After the standard transitioning they run into, "Ok, what do I do with my life now?" situations. The lesson to be learned: Don't make transitioning the one purpose in one's life during transition. My therapist even warned me about that.
