I am honestly fuzzy on what the 'desired results' are. As I understand it, we are trying to bring a free and democratic government to Iraq. I imagine if they ever get truly free and democratic elections in an area where the majority hates the US, the new leaders will be duly elected officials that will insist we leave at once without so much as a thank you. Best case scenario.
Just what it looks like from where I sit.

We are not all hyper-liberal Islamic loving American hating blind sheep, but I think you would agree that extreme views exist in both parties. Your emotional and derogatory adjective laden series of questions suggest to me that you are a right wing extremest Republican who would not even appreciate the effort to discuss the issue in a civil manner. BUT to answer your main question I would say THANK GOD I was wrong, the additional hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of additional lives were well worth it - now I can sleep peacefully at night knowing I am safe from Sadam and all those other Islamic radicals that were training in his country before we started the war.

But I bet they would try to sabotage and strategies that might work, they just want to give up and go home, which would make a waste of everything we have done so far.

They won't have to because the surge won't change anything. We've already had troop surges in the past and they haven't made things better so there is no reason to believe that this one is going to change anything for the good either.
