There's this girl at school, and I think she likes me but I'm not sure. She tries to make me laugh, and always asks me how I am, and is so nice to me. It sounds like a friendship, except that she gets really nervous around me, she stares and doesn't turn away when I catch her, and usually gets relatively close to me.

Interest doesn't always involve anything sexual. Some people envy other people of the same gender--would like to be like them--would like to look like them, etc. It's kind of a jealousy thing, but not a cruel one.
I really envied a young teacher of mine in high school. She was only 4 year older than us (her students) had travelled across the country to teach at our school, was old enough to do grownup things, was pretty and had a great personality. I liked being around her because of my interest in the things she had already done with her life, and wished that I would be able to do the same. That's all there was to that.
