Most fish require more than a 1 gallon tank, so your choices are limited, a tank that small would be suitable for a Betta fish, one male only. These fish are very pleasing to the eye, and are quite active once the temperature is right, about 77-78F. They can be kept at room temp as well. These fish are not "easily bred" so if you want some breeding, although you will have literally no room to spare, you will have to get some little guppies, they breed fairly easy and can look okay.

You really shouldn't cram any fish into a 1 gallon tank, even a betta. They need more room than that to feel like they're in a healthy, safe, real territory. And just to have room to swim, and be alive, and not bored!

If you want to keep multiple fish alive and healthy, you should upgrade to a 10 or 20 gallon at least. I've paid a lot less buying tank, filter, heater, and gravel separately than a whole kit that has cheap food and ugly decorations I don't really want.

If you want to breed, guppies are small and don't take much effort.

You really will have better luck and less frustration if you'll use a search engine like Google, and look for information on the species of fish you want so that know its needs and preferences. Try searching for "fancy guppy breeding."

one betta would work
or a couple of neon tetras (around 2 or 3)
also white cloud mountain minnows would be good. They are small, hardy, cute, and peaceful. They will be fine in such a small tank.
Most other fish will need more space
and guppies breed too much fo a 1 gallon.

a 1 gallon "aquarium" is nothing more than a vase really, maybe you could keep flowers in it?

no fish would truely thrive in such a tiny space.
i have bettas in 5 US gallons to 8 US gallons + and they love every inch of it, i wouldn't dream of craming them into a tiny 1 gallon.

and just because a fish is tiny (such as an endler or a neon tetra) does NOT mean they can live in a tiny amount of water. often tiny fish are very active fish and would die from stress (and other things probably) if kept in such an inadequate environment.

is definately only 1 gallon? or did you guess the size?

you could uuh...have a shrimp tank?

No goldfish. Goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons of water per fish. Minimum. And they require a lot of very specific care. The rule for community fish is 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon of water. So, you could have one small community fish such as a tetra or guppy. Or you could have one betta. Bottom line is, for a one gallon aquarium, you can only have one fish. It's just too small for any more. You also need a heater, air and a filter. Please do some research on fishkeeping before you actually buy your fish. If you don't, it will just die.

Crawfish need more space than 1 gallon... And so do bettas, really. I think you're limited to a guppy or betta (or if it's filtered, a snail or shrimp.)

I wouldn't put any more than 1 fish in it, no matter what the species.

a one gallon aquarium is not efficient for a fish unless you are treating it with medications. (a hospital tank).

i would suggest either a betta or a crawfish. nothing more. fish need lot's of swimming room.

if your not sure always ask someone at a reputable pet store.

good luck.

guppies breed more than any other fish but theyre not the cutest ones. i think breeding mollies would be cute but a 1 gallon tank is not suited for that many fish. fish lay hundreds of eggs.

if there is a circulation/aereation pump ther are many choices and you can even mix&match (cutting the chance of breeding down too!) tetras are a great choice...the neon tetras are tiny with nice coloring, bleeding heart tetras are about thumbnail size-look like they have a bloodspot on their "chest".angelfish come in various sizes (can be BIG) but are beautiful with their long fins, like the many different and facinating types of gouramies they can be a little agressive with other fis...best to check with a knowledgeable sales clerk(at a REAL petstore-not wal-mart or the like) as which fish are compatable.stay away from african sichilids...very aggressive almost like pirannah behavior with helpless little fishies.Mollies are now bred with interesting markings..but they breed easy..bear live young and then have a tendency to snack on them! back to the original question..without proper aeriation stick to goldfish or a beta...both loners (however a beta can cohabitate with a few small tetras in a circulated tank.

these fish you could get 4 of cherry barb, bumble gobies, kuli loaches, endler's livebearbers, neon or cardinal, or black neon tetra, zebra danios, even if you only get 4 of these it will still be crampted.

these fish are easy to breed
;guppies, endlers, and cherry barbs
the rest are very hard to breed

good luck

ps any crayfish will kill and eat any fish you can put in that tank
