If you have 50,000 or more miles on your car, I would not recommend switching to a synthetic at this point. You have too much engine wear for it to be effective. If you are under this, you just change your oil, and put the synthetic in instead of regular oil.
Benefits would be higher resistance to heat, longer oil change intervals, and better wear protection.

J.R does have a good answer..... plus it pumps easier in cold weather.....
Nothing needs to be done to "convert" to synthetic.... just do a regular oil change, except this time use synthetic.

If your car leaks oil, or burns it, you are wasting your money. Otherwise synthetic oil is suppose to be slipperier than regular so less wear. But if you have been using regular and you got lots of miles on the beast, it is worn. Syn's is not gonna fix anything.

Synthetic oil don't break down, better lubrication withstand much greater heat and better flow in ext-ream cold weather. I use nothing but synthetic in all my cars, lawn mower and tractor. you don't have dry parts when you start you engine after setting like over night or so.
