Venezuela COULD be a threat for the US.
But certainly IS a threat already to countries like mine, Argentina, where our stupid leaders allow Chávez to tell what they should do.
Chávez is trying to spread his Comunist virus all across Latin America.
And the only reason he can do that is because he has oil to sell and money to burn.
Populism is popular in LA just because half of the population does not like to work and expects to live on what the other half produce.
Plus, people does not have memory...

Basically Venezuela is using gas and money to manipulate the financially disadvantaged in this country to effect the political landscape here by giving areas free oil after they themselves have been manipulating the oil markets to over inflate prices so the disadvantaged and lower middle class in our country have difficulty paying for heat etc.... Bravo to the alaskan villages who turned down his offer.
Venezuela is a huge problem for the US because the dictator there exploits his own people and has slowly been taking the civil liberties away from his own people as he gains more power in his country. If he can win the hearts and minds of our lower to middle class here in the US then it will be politically difficult for any U.S. leadership (Dems and rep.) and other countries to address, in the United Nations forum, the civil rights issues that in a few years will be critical in venezuela . In two years ask this question and see how the Venezuela people will have been exploited, and the oil wealth in that country gradually until it only goes to Cha CHa and not to the all the people.
The U.S. regardless of what political party you belong to consistantly has stood for one thing and thats Humanity first. This is a threat to anyone who's motives and power goals are not so good for all who they are reported to lead.

Chavez polices will create hyper-inflation, shortage of goods, shortage of wiskey for the cronies. Chavez will destroy Venezuela, and then it will take 20 years to correct the damage Chavez did in 7 years. Nationalization of telecommunication industry right there told me Chavez put the nail in the coffin of his poltical life in the next couple years. Coup will occur by a millitary general not too happy seeing thier fellow people straving while Chavez is padding his own Swiss Bank account. Norgiea comment from the other person that is possible too lol.

Chavez is in the middle of trying to consolidate power all to himself. Most of this is grandstanding is to show that he can stand up against the US. He's also putting all the major utility companies under state control ie: water, electricity, phone, and even oil. By doing this he is kicking out all the foreign investors and is on the brink of destroying Venezuela's economy. He's basically the 21st century Castro.

Are you stupid or just an ostrich?? Where have you been that you don't know that Hugo Chavez is in bed with Iran, North Korea, Fidel Castro, Russia and you name an enemy of America he is with them all the way. He stood next to a smiling (and a traitor I might add) Cindy Shehan and said that Bush is Satan and a worse terrorist than Bin Ladin. Chavez wants us to be destroyed (by his own words) and intends to help it happen. Just this week he did away with his Parliament so he could be absolute dictator without opposition or checks and balances. He claims to have been democratically elected 9 times, but the integrity of those elections have always been in question, especially since anyone who tried to bring it up lost their life. A lot of people have been executed under Chavez and their only crime was opposing him. Hmmm! Sounds like ahm Hitler, or Stalin, or Saddam, or just about any other murderous dictator.
What have we done for him? What we have always done. We have helped Venezuela monetarily and by buying their oil and by many humanitarian government programs.
What I don't understand about liberals is they don't do any research to be well informed to form reasonable opinions about anything. But they do listen to the liberal media and liberal politicians and feed into their far left propaganda and then believe everything they are told by them without question. Then they shoot off at the mouth and make themselves look dumb in the sight of all the educated people.

Not using the American dollar as the medium of exchange for oil . All dollars collected in Venezuela are converted and exchanged for euro's . All revenue collected from the sales of any products are immediately converted to Euro dollars . This is creating a substancial trade imbalance for America . We send out dollars for oil and expect to get them back .Instead they are accumulating in the banks of Europe and our world debt is expanding .

V enezuela did not do anything to the US except have the audacity to have oil in their ground.
Bush knows when he sics the American public on a poor sap, they respond as if they know what's going on.
You are the first person I've read on Y!A who admits he does not know and find it puzzling.
Bush is fabricating as usual so that when the time comes and he runs out of evil things to say about Arabs he'll turn to Venezuela.
