I don't understand it. America is always making socialist nations their enemies. Examples being USSR, Cuba, and now Venezuela. Why does it matter that they're socialist? I know we're democratic, but its not our business to tell other countries how they're government should run. America must have the worst foreign policy in the world.

(Yes I'm an American)

Actually they're all Socialist societies. Socialism is defined as by having "dictatorship of the proletariat." No country has ever created a true Communist society, which would have no leader like Lenin in Russia.

Socialism is the enemy to free enterprise. We have a huge problem with it in the US. BTW, the countries you mention are communist, not socialist. Communist countries have historically tried to destroy free countries. That is why they are our enemy.

Ok well lets start by looking at what socialism is and its history. Marxsism (real socialism different from Stalinism that many people think is true socialism) is the idea of a society that is able to provide for everyone according to his/her needs. It is a society where the workers (not government) own the means of production, it is the notion that people should hold political power and that the governments do what the people want them to do. The people as a majority own the state and its economy. Excluding the Paris commune (first workers state) which in all its glory lasted for a short time because of the circumstances facing it, the Russian Revolution and the state that emerged from it is an example of the first socialist society. The leaders of the revolution that sought to end the feudal system and free the masses from their supression was led by Trotsky and Lenin. What emerged from the revolution is considered to be the most democratic state in history, examples of this democracy are as follows, the workers owned the means of production and held political power, they had the power to over throw the government at any point if they found it to be unfair and the politicians did not have a higher wage than a normal worker and the people had the power to limit even the president's earnings. However Lenin and Trosky and other revolutionaries wanted to spread the revolution to other countries because socialism cannot survive in an islotated country it must be global. Workers all accross the world were inspired by the Russian revolution. Countries all accross the world, Sweden, America, Germany, England, South American countries, Asian countries were on the brink of a socialist revolution. Capitalism and right winged governments were very scared of this and they knew that they had to stop this movement if they were to protect their priveliges, their power over the workers and their ritcher classes. So what did they do? They adopted socialist ideas and programs which is what they call now democracy to satisfy the workers and prevent a revolution however these programms were only meant to be temporary and we can see them being destroyed by the govenrments today. So Russia was faced with circumstances that did everything to prevent its socialist development such as, revolutions in other countries were destroyed it was isolated and Russia was generaly (before the revolution) a backward country and did not have the resources to provivde for everyone, so out of this was formed a beurocracy and emerged Stalin. Who went on to seize political power for himself and a few priveliged others, who destroyed socialist qualities, who betrayed the Marxist revolution, who massacered Trotsky's folowers as to get rid of any opposition and who created a deformed worker's state. The only thing and I mean the only socialist thing in Stalinism was a central and planned economy, even though it was owned by the government when realy it is supposed to be owned by the people its structure was basicaly socialist, this type of economy proved to be far, far superior to the capitalist one and during world war 2 it proved itself to be stronger than than that of capitalist Germany's. However this deformed workers state could not last forever, Trotsky had predicted that it was either going to go forward into socialism or backward into capitalism, however for it to go forward the people had to rise against the dictator type governemnt and over throw it but for it to go back to capitalism the governemnt had to brake the workers as has happened. Also similar examples of this Stalinist regime was China, Cuba, North korea and so on. Now what is America and what are other capitalist countries scared of and why do they have to weige war on any trace of socilaism? Well firstly they are scared of true socialism because they are scared of their own workers from rising against them and destroying their greedy capitalist market and their class organised society which limits privelages to a few and exploits the rest. On the other hand they are scared of Stalinism because it is a threat to their own imperialist goals and because it utulises the centraly planned economy as a weapon that the capitalist world is very scared of.

Hate is not a good description of our governments position. Socialism is not 'hated'. Our interest, in this case - thus far - is that American investors are not riped off. Socialism has survived in many countries for many years. Usually doesn't last, but... It is not something Americans would want to have forced on us, which is why we must be careful about government control. It could creep up on us as congress nibbles away at it.

Canada has a great deal of socialist programs and they are not 'hated' by our government. Cuba is, but not 'hated'. Discussed from a humanitarian stand point.

We will not try to force this nut to change his mind, but we will try to talk to him about getting $$ that belong to Americans. It could get heated. It would be great if we never had to look at or hear from this slim ball again, but he will keep running his mouth. Lets hope our government simply blocks any further oil imports and let him drift into oblivion.

Do you like the DMV? Well imagine the dmv running the country. Ever thing from malls to gas station. Oh yeah if you ever criticized the government you are arrested and tortured. 250,000 people in china are in re-education camps. (TODAY)

Trust me it is evil. Only people that have power are in the government. You can never own a large business. You are slave. I lived in a former communist country. I know what happens. Stalin was just as bad as Hitler he mass murdered polish officers and then tried blaming Hitler for it.

You are forgetting history when you ask that question. Thousands of Americans flocked to Russia, the China and South America to help "socialist" revolutions. Many Americans died to help change those governments.

Officially the US Gov generally supported the origional Gov. We even sent a few troops to aid the elected Russian Gov, not the Czar. For a brief moment Russia was a Democracy.

Anyway, the repayment was a long bitter cold war that left tens of millions dead, nations ruined, people's divided and massive ecological destruction. The "socialists" declared that they would not give up until the whole world was socialist. The socialists have been rather fanatical in the past. Guilty of mass murder in every non-European nation to adopt Socialism and also in most European nations that adopted socialism. Socialism brought the UK economy to the brink, has gutted the French economy and has decimated Eastern Europe and Russia.

Millions of Canadians, British and wealthy members of Socialist nations come to the US for health care. Which is ironic with so many Americans going abroad for health care. The problem is best illustrated by a friend of mine in the UK. They have socialized medicine. My friend's son needed an operation for a life threatening condition. The waiting list to get that Operation was so long that they had to pay out of pocket to save their son's life. Canadians often come to the US for urgent care. The delays that are an inevitable part of socialized medicine are a bogey man to Americans. We are spoiled. We are used to the best possible health care and we are used to getting it when we want it. We are used to being able to go get a second opinion if we don't like the first one. Those are all things that don't happen with socialized medicine normally. You wait your turn in an over burdened system. You get whatever quality Doc that happens to draw your lot. You might be able to relocate to obtain better quality health care but generally your stuck with whatever you happen to randomly get. This loss of control over something so personal scares Americans.

So we worry about the effects socialism will have on our own nation such as health care.

Most Socialist nations cannot feed themselves. So when a nation becomes Socialist they burden the rest of the world. The US is one of the most generous in the world with food and one of the biggest suppliers of food to the world. Name ONE Socialist nation outside of Europe that ever sent as much as a sack of rice to a nation they were not attempting to topple the government of or in control of. When an earthquake hits, who is that imediately responds with aid? Not Socialist nations.

So a second aspect is look at what Cuba has done since Castro took over. They've undermined other governments. They've exported weapons, tactics. Did they help when Hurricanes hit the region? No they did not. Then again Cuba without subsidies cannot support itself. Strange since pre-Castro Cuba had a thriving economy. True it was weighted too heavily toward the wealthy. True it had a corrupt murderous dictator. Still it was able to support itself. Russia and China have invaded dozens of nations. Were constantly a threat to invade others. Venezualia has made pacts with Arab terrorists and is busy supporting radical Islamic goals in Africa. Any time "socialists" take over completely you get these things.

A dictator. No nation has gone pure Socialist without becoming a dictatorship. Chavez is elected only in name. He rather efficiently put down riots attempting to oust him. Is amending the Constitution to allow him to be prez beyond the term limits and probably fixed the elections to win. So he is a dictator in the making.

You get an agressive nation that ferments war in the area.

You get "re-education" camps which are just a polite term for concentration camps.

You get floods of people fleeing that nation. Many of them winding up here.

You get an environment in ruins. Look at former Soviet block nations. Then look at what China is doing. Once Castro finally dies and Cuba overthrows his successor I think we'll find massive ecological damage in Cuba as well. Socialism removes the ability of concerned citizens to do anything. So industry has free reign in socialist nations.

Socialism is based on Athiesm. The basic tenents of Marxism which is what people mistake for socialism today are ones that refute any religion. That oppress religion. Socialist societies also require uniformity. Almost all have destroyed major works of art and crushed minority cultures and sometimes even majority cultures. Traditions are outlawed and often lost.

So if you mean besides declaring war on us. Besides commiting massive genocide, besides creating environmental disasters, besides creating floods of refugees, besides how Socialism attacks religion, destroys cultures and devalues many things that Americans believe strongly in, yeah then if you ignore all that you might be able to accept a Socialist nation in your neighborhood. Then again to do so would be like allowing a woman to be raped next door to you and doing nothing. Instead of a woman it's an entire nation that's being raped.

To the person above me "draciron". There are several flaws in your arguments you seem to distort history itself. You seem like the person who soacks up everything they hear in the news. America did not help the socIalists and the people after the Revolution it helped and supported the supressive Provisional GovernmenT that wanted to seize power for itself and destroy the Russian Revolution. Its supressive nature can be seen in many of the policies it created but thankfully the workers rose and over threw it. American armies helped this provisional governement to fight against the people. Those who wanted to spread socialism globaly did so because they wanted end the supression of the working class everywhere, to return political power to the peole and because socialism cannot work in one country. And there were indeed masses everywhere who rose against their supressive capitalist governments however you are forgetting that many many of them were murdered and many revolutionaries were murdred by the capitalists to destroy these young revolutions. Apart from Russia no other country in Europe adopted socialism, they may have adopted socialist programms like free health care to prevent a revolution just as others have but this in no way defines them as socialist. For a country to be deemd socialist it must fit the following, the people must have political power and governemnt must be just a tool for the working class it must do what the masses want, the society of that country must provide for everyone according to their needs, the economy and means of production must be planned and centrilized and controlled by the working class, the society must be more democratic than any other capitalist one since democracy is a socialist construct and idea, property must be publicly owned and expoitative private property and private means of production must be abolished. Those (France, UK) who you say have incoporated socialism into their economies like goverment ownership have not actually incoporated any socialism into their economies but what is called STATE OWNED CAPITALISM. These government owned companies function exactly like private ones inernaly and in the capitalist market. So we have than cleared up that nither Canada nor UK, nor France are even close to being socialist. Ok an what ever made America economicaly superior to these other capitalist nations I mean it is 10 trillion dollars in dept, the highest dept in the world, that doesnt sound like everything is going smoothly. On the free health care matter, you said that it is no match to the private system but why is that, because the socialist programms are much less funded than the private ones. Yes you heard me, the governemnt pores in billions of dollars of funding into private healthcare while nationalized healthcare gets has to cope with 10 times less funding. So the private system not only earns from profit but its also massively funded, duh ofcourse it will be better.Another thing is that for all these programms to survive the working class is taxed so much while private bussineses that reap billions are virtually not taxed at all, go figure. You pointed out how socialist countries like Cuba China and Russia were not hummanitarian and sought to conqour other nations, destroy works of art and education, supress their own people, comit genocide....., news flash these countries are not socialist. Russia started doing these things only after Stalin came to power and promoted STALINISM, which spread to china, cuba and other countries he had basicaly destroyed the Marxist movement and the fact that you disguise the actions of these impearalist Stalinist beurocracies as genuanly socialist is a disgust to history. Now we get to America who you promoted as the most giving and angelic nation in the world. News Flash 2 its not. You say that it has given so much to the needy but it takes way more than it gives. Currently western countries generate 7 billion dollars from Africa each year (from their mines and resources) the majority of this being America and we all no what the situation is over there. No American charity gives more than a few million each year but look how much its capitalism takes. During the post war economic depression American governemnt came up with a plan to generate money from the opressed nations. Through the genious IMF International Monetary Fund it generated 179 billion dollars from nations in a highly critical situation. Everywhere the IMF goes it takes over the central banks of opressed countries and saps everything it can leaving the economy in ruins, but few see this because it is covered with lies of hummanitarianism and helping out countries in need with loans. It has not helped one economy in the long term but it shore has generated 10 times more than it has given. America through history has supported countless dictatorships, an example is Sadam Hussein, American troops during the Cold War helped Sadam commit the unforgivable genocide against his country's working class and when they recently tried him in a political trial, not one of justice, they accused him of only 2 minor crimmes when he had done so much more. Why? Because these were the only crimes they werent directly involved in if they accused him of other more horrible crimes further investigation would have found a direct link to America's involvment. Aslo have you frogotten the brutal and bloody massacar of Chille's revolutionary youth by the dictator Pinochet fully and I mean fully supported by the America and its troops. Dont be delusional America like all other previous Empires looks out for its imperialist interests and commits the worst genocide against those who stand in its way.
THE HIGHEST STEP OF CAPITALISM IS IMPERIALISM
