I don't know if we will get off oil entirely but we could reduce our consumption by over 65% if we had alternative energy sources such as Electric cars, vegie diesal cars and hybrids of gas and electric. Hydrogen is kind of a dumb idea because it will take more energy to produce it in the form of oil and the entire infrastructure would cost billions to change. Electric cars will bypass hydrogen very soon since batteries are evolving quickly. You can now find people converting their pick up trucks to all battery and getting over 200 miles per charge.
