I'm planning to buy some fake nails and apply them myself. I live in Canada so what kind of brands are just as good as professionally done nails?

None are as good or will last as long as professional acrylic nails.
But, you could get an at-home acrylic kit and do them yourself, or you could buy the kind you just glue on. The best brand of those, that I used for months, was Kiss at Wal-Mart.

Technically, the most popular one is Lee Press-Ons. I personally don't know if they have it in Canada, and I personally think they look a little long and square to be natural. Get one with shorter tips to look as natural as possible.

Fing'rs are great U can get them at most stores like wal-mart. I like to get them already colored so I don't have to mess around with painting them. They come in beautiful colors too :)
