This is a good one that my Grandma told me. She lived in England when she had her first child and it was thought then that if a woman had her child and hadn't had her child baptized that if she went to someone's house before the baby had been baptized that she would spread the pregnancy to any child bearing women in that house as if it were a disease. So new mothers didn't go over to their friends houses to show off their new babies until the baby had been baptized, unless of course the woman wanted to have a child.
Her aunt wanted to get pregnant at the time she had my aunt and her aunt told her that she couldn't get my aunt baptized until she came over to her house.
That is the craziest pregnancy myth I have ever heard.

The drano test lol. My cousin did this and it said she'd have a boy and she did, but I don't count that as a scientific way of determining the sex of the baby.

Eating lots of chocolate during pregnancy can make it a girl. LOL. I guess it was invented by a preggo woman that desired to eat alot of chocolate and wanted a girl. as The saying goes "Girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice"!!!
Also as a another poster said the hands above the head thing will make the umbilical cord wrap around the baby's head. My grandmother would not let me do it. I KNEW BETTER.

To set off labor: - bounce up and down - ride on a bumpy road - consume spicy meals - devour chinese meals - consume eggplant parmesan - drink purple wine to tell the sex: - seem on the dilation of the mum's students - dangle a marriage ceremony ring over the mummy's belly and spot if it goes backward and forward or in circles - mother's tummy is circular - boy; tummy is oval - lady To avoid miscarriage: - don't put on jeans - don't carry your fingers above your head - don't be round cats There are a variety of other weird ones I've heard that I cannot believe of right now. I've heard so many with these pregnancies.

My aunt told me that the first person to touch a pregnant woman's stomach the baby would come out to be that gender. Ex: If a guy touched your stomach first then you'll have a boy. The funny thing is that at the time she was pregnant and my girl cousin was the first to touch her stomach and she had a girl.

The craziest thing that I have ever heard about pregnancy myths is that if the pregnant female(duh!) sleeps to much that the baby's ambioc(something that) fluid dries up. Also that if the female cuts her hair the baby will come out deaf/mute!!!! Silly huh.

My great aunt told me that if I had a craving and didn't get the food I wanted, my baby would have a birthmark in the shape of that food. ("Which is why Valerie has a pork chop on her shoulder")
By the way the hair=heartburn thing is not a myth. The hair aggravates the mother's diaphragm, causing a burning sensation.

I heard an old woman in Missouri say that if a rat scared a mother to be or a horse reared up next to her that the baby might be born with a rat face or with a long, long horse face. She was quite serious.

It'd have to be that putting your hands over your head would tie a knot in the umbillical cord.. or all those crazy ways people think will determine the sex of their baby.

my friend would not let me put away dishes, because i had to reach up to put away the bowls. she swore it would wrap the cord..that was just 3 years ago, and all i could think was, as soon as you leave, i'm put'n away my dishes..lol also i heard if you put Drano in the toilet then go pee, if the water turns blue its a boy and if it turns pink its a girl. where do people come up with these things?

That if you tie a pencil on the end of a string and hold it over the mom's belly you can tell the sex by the direction the pencil turns.
