Where did the idea of hardrives come from? By chance from phonographs?

I have a research paper to do on the phonograph, and Im trying to think of a catchy introduction, and I'd like some help please! :)

I wouldn't say so, except in a very general way. If anything, both came from drums - the phonograph from Edison's wax cylinders, the disk drive from magnetic drums. For a catchy introduction, talk about the records that were popular when your teacher was a teenager, and pretend to like them. Can't hurt! Actually, you might find if you listened to the music some, you might end up liking it. You never know ...
