If you read my last question I was asking about DTC code P0421. Well I just found out that this code had a TSB number. My question is can i take my car to any Mitsubishis and get it fixed for free or do i have to take it to the dealer where its still under warranty? only problem is the kid never sent the warranty papers as he had promised when I had bought the car...

A TSB is not a recall, it is exactly what it says it is; a Technical Service Bulletin describing a fault and actions needed to correct it. Depending on the vehicle, age and mileage it may be a warranty issue, maybe not. Catalytic converters are federally mandated with a long warranty - usually in excess of the warranty on the car so if it is the Cat you may yet have warranty recourse.

In your prev question, you said this was a fault with the catalytic converter. Since that is part of the emissions control system, the warranty is longer for those components than for the mfr's standard warranty for driveline, etc. In California, most emission parts are supposed to be covered for at least 50,000 miles, and certain high-cost parts must be covered as long as 75,000 miles. For US-spec'ed cars built since 1995, emission warranties cover 80,000 miles or 8 years.

Take your vehicle back to the dealer and explain this is an emissions problem that the factory should cover. You can mention the TSB to show them you know about the problem.

If you have any problems, either check the federal EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), or if you are in California, the Air Resources Board, websites for more info about emission system warranties.

Write everything down about your situation, keep copies of work orders, get names of service advisers, etc. in case you have any problems getting this fixed.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin. It is a repair guideline, not a recall.
