Actually, as long as one person of a 2 or 3 way call knows the conversation is being recorded, its legal in most U.S. States and Canadian Provinces. (check your local laws)
What you need is a microphone attached to the centre of your handset, you can get one at an electronics shop such as Radio Shack (now known as ''The Source'' or '' Circuit City'')
It has a plug in that fits a mic jack on a tape player and a suction cup that attaches to your phone handset with 3-6 feet of wire (it should work on cell phones too but I don't know how well as I never tried it on a cell)

I have an external device I purchased at Radio Shack that provides the interface between the cell phone and an external recording device like a cassette recorder. It works great.

Recorder with 1/8" audio input.
Permission from person you with to record. It is illegal far as I know, without permission, and not admissable in court.
A note about that cable you may have to jury rig something like that as chances are it's a 3 conductor cable, ground, mic signal and speaker signal. You of course want the speaker signal to go to the recorder.

their is a record button on most all cell phones, all you have to do is when you get the call push record, however due to laws in most states most of them will make a beep noise letting both parties know that its being recorded. before you make any attempts to record conversations i would check with the laws of your state first, i am in tennessee and i know that it is legal for to record conversations as long as one of the persons talking is aware of it being recorded, but most states laws says both parties have to be aware of it being recorded.

What your planning on is illegal unless the other party knows there being recorded and agrees to it, and that doesn't sound like what you have in mind. If you're that suspicious of someone you may want to re-think that relationship and if you're up to no-good, I would definitely re-think it.

yes, but if you don't tell the other party, its illegal. My cell phone has an option to do this...during the call, hit the menu button, and see if yours has a record call link

there is software for the purpose...if its a nokia mobile u can use a s/w called callrecorderpro which is available in symbianware.com
