Songs that illuminate the truth of that idea called love, in my opinion, are better than those which prefer to shade the truth. "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band, may very well be the epitome of such songs. Following just behind it are "Social Disease" and "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Jonathon Bon Giovani, aka Bon Jovi. "Love stinks" would be my pick! I love the raunchy guitar in the song. It goes right with the message.
I did forget about "Love Hurts" by The Everly Bros. Nazareth's cover is truly haunting. Dan McCafferty's voice is perfect for this song.

Not sure if this really relates, but this question brought to mind to me....
My brother in law put his two cents in when he and my sister were planning wedding. He wanted the "bridal March" song to be "Stairway to Heaven" and then once the vows were done and the couple pronounced man and wife....as the bride and groom walk back down the aisle, he wanted the song "Highway To Hell" to play.
Needless to say, he did not get his way, but I thought it funny. I was a kid back then too....
