We have a new tax preparation place in town and they hired a man to wear a Statue of Liberty costume and wave at drivers as they go by in order to drum up business. Well we drove by him today and he looks just like Hitler, right down to the little Hitler mustache, i burst out laughing and said,

"Oh my god, its Hitler in a Statue of Liberty costume!"

My daughter then asked me who Hitler was, she's 9 and has not learned about the Holocaust yet, do you think she is too young to learn about it? She has been asking me constantly, until bed, since i said that this afternoon.

I've always believed if a child is old enough to ask, they should be given the correct information. Of course, your discussion should be age appropriate -- you don't have to get gory in the details. But a basic understanding of Hitler and the Nazis would be appropriate. Check the web and your local library for age appropriate stories about the Holocaust. There are several out there. She's at the age that diaries become important. Perhaps you could read "Ann Frank's Diary" together.

There are several books about the Holocaust geared toward younger readers. I'm sure you can find them at your public library. Just be careful of what she sees. She's probably too young to see actual pictures of the camps.

All she needs to know is that Hitler is a bad man. As she gets older, she will ask or be taught. Since you told her the truth, there will be no conflict.

no, she's not to young to learn about Hitler, but you're going to need to water it down for her, because she's going to get nightmares.
if your daughter is the sensitive type, than either water it down a lot or try to avoid the topic
