I'd say that you could write something like this in your paper.
Genetic manipulation of dogs goes back to the time when dogs were first domesticated. The first people to domesticate dogs must have seen the huge potential in these animals. They would have taken the dogs that had the most desirable traits for whatever end to which they were working, and bred it with similar dogs. Through the generations, people have needed to adapt their domesticated animals to different purposes, so different traits were emphasized in breeding. With the dawn of pets as we know them now, the genetic traits being emphasized are based on economics.

All dogs came from wolves, but the vast majority of dog breeds look nothing like them. The reason is deliberate genetic manipulation of the species by humans. This was done thousands of years before people knew anything about DNA or genes. It was accomplished by picking specific pairs of dogs from a general group. The dogs you picked are ones that have traits you want. If you want a big powerful dog, breed two big powerful dogs. If you want cute fluffy small dogs, breed the two cutest fluffy ones you can find. The puppies won't be what you want initially, but if you keep doing this over and over for hundreds of generations, eventually you end up with miniature poodles or St. Bernards.
this was done also for dogs with short legs, such as basset hounds, so they can crawl into the sub-terranean dens of other mammals and kill them. You keep breeding traits deliberately.

Over the years, people have breeded different types of dogs to produce dogs with certain traits that they want to have in their dogs..
For example, some dogs have short hair that dont shed, but they love to have poodles, so they intermix a poodle and the shorthaired breed to come up with a whole new breed of shedless poodles.
Its about intermixing dog breeds to get all the traits you want in a dog.
This can take a number of litters to create what you want, all the while new breds are being created.

Genetic Manipulation is when you play around with certain species of something... in this case, dogs. They mix the genes in order to get what type of dog they want. This is usually best represented with flowers and how they form hybrids. Good luck

I think they just want you to explain how interbreeding (like a lab and a poodle) has created new breeds. If you want info on genetic manipulation I would recomend looking for Gregor Mendel on Yahoo, I don't know of any specific sites though...

umm
explain how people have made it so different genes show in dogs like the dominant and recicive genes
so some are tall
some short
some black some white
and how people have through years monitored it so taht the ones they wanted would show
if you ever did that little 4 box square, just kinda explain that

That question is more focused on selective breeding. For thousands of years people would not let their dogs breed if they had undesirable traits and vise versa. This would lead to specific gene pools in specific breeds.
