using dimensional analysis:

36 mi/gal(1 gal/3.7842 L)(1.61km/1 mi) = 15.32 km/L

36miles|1.61 km= kilometers
1mile

36miles|1 gallon = Liters
1gallon 3.784L

multiply the top of the equation all the way then divide by the bottom
its dimensional analyisis
