doctor suggested we have it surgically removed and the hole patched. What would happen if we just left it? Is this standard procedure for a tube that has been in for that long? Will it affect her hearing if it's left in her ear?

My daughter who is now 5 1/2 had ear tubes put in when she was 14 months old. The right one fell out a couple of years ago but the left one is still there and is embedded in the ear rather than coming loose. We have had several ear infections even with the tubes in. After my daughters allergists looking in her ears while doing routine stuff she said we needed to see an ENT about the tube. So we waited a few weeks and got in with one. My daughter had been complaining for awhile that she couldn't hear from the left one. So upon examining the ear he found that the tube is so full of wax and has embedded in so it is almost like it is now countersunk. We did the hearing test the right ear she passed with 100% the left ear she got a 94 % on. So it really does affect the hearing and according to the ENT just leaving them can cause permanent damage to the ear as well as the hearing. We will be going in to have surgery on the ear in February as well as she is having the tonsils and the adnoids removed because they are so bad as well. So if they suggest it I would do it before she is too old to really fight it, would also reccommend having the throught and nose looked and like us their doing it all at once. This is the chosen procedure to remove a tube that has outlived its use. Some if they are closer to the surface the doctor can just go in with long tweezer and take it out with no problems but after this long they don't just come out and it would be really painful to do it without putting them to sleep. The tweezer method is what they used on my son when his was there but ready to be removed it had only been in 2 years.
Hope this helps and good luck.

while my daughter replaced into little she had 6 distinctive instruments of tubes. the conventional one is basically a at contemporary little tube and is each and every so often compelled out via yet another ear an infection or via the ear healing itself. there's a T-shaped one which will stay in and must be surgically got rid of later. they are going to in all probability no longer use that one till she has continual ear infections. solid success and don't subject too lots. The surgical technique is speedy and that they are in many situations large here day. She could be slightly nauseous while she wakes up by way of anesthesia so have a towel and wash rag attainable interior the waiting room. I found out the difficult way while she threw up on my shirt. LOL let us know the way it is going my pal.

I thought they just eventually fell out, and they are occasionally replaced (new tubes) if they're needed.
Don't know really.
