It could be about you or your characteristics You could do Head Heart Hands and Health for a 4H theme or Character, Leadership, Service.. etc.

4H is usually animal based (most 4Hers are in an animal club is what I'm trying to say) .so something animal-friendly.

Animal Testing..
Cloning.

There's always the "What 4H means too me..." or "My 4H project improved me because..." type questions.

Whatever interests you the most you should do.

I agree with the first two responses. It is always easiest to talk about something you're familiar with. I remember having to do speeches in 8th grade and being *terrified*. The speech I remember most was on how to make plants from cuttings, something I did a lot with my mom. I knew a lot about it, since we did it at home all the time. So I went to class, and told group how to do it. It seemed easy, since I was familiar with the topic. (What the class didn't ever find out was that I had mistakenly planted the cuttings in cement, not soil...) Doing a speech about something I loved turned out to be fun.

Do you like to cook, take care of animals, (how to housebreak a puppy was another one of my topics), garden, etc.

something that will be interesting to the listener.
if you can get the attention of the audience with a subject that will get your audience and maybe a subject you have a passion for.
Also the person who grades the speech? Don't leave them out either.
Introduce yourself
start with a joke to loosen everyone up but no racial slur or blue humor..(dirty smack talk)
K.I.S.S..= keep is short stupid
A speech should be like a women's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject but short enough to keep it interesting.
Stop talking before the audience stops listening
Most listeners appreciate a speech that ends before they think it will end..if you see your audience fidgeting and looking bored then this is a good sign...look at the American Idol and see what they do when someone bombs...they are rude but that is life
thank the audience for listening..its a small think but it works
(use 3X5 cards as they will keep you focused but try to keep eye content with the audience and try not to fidget and stop waying phrases like errrr or duh? or you know? etc
Watch President George W. Bush to see what not do to..study Sen. Osama...good speak..Hillary Clinton speaks well but you might agree with the message they give but they are trained at public speaking..so is Sen. Kennedy (teddy)
