money. a quarter is 25/100 or 1/4 of a dollar. Gee, guess that's why it's called a quarter, huh? A dime is 10/100 or 1/10 of a dollar. etc etc Ever get the reply, "It's a quarter past the hour," when you ask someone what the time is? That's 1/4 hour or 15/60 or 15 minutes. It's a fraction, right?

The obvious answer would be in cooking recipes. 1/4 cup of sugar, 5/8 cup of flour etc... the there is the automotive sector and building industry where a 1/4 inch wrench might be used or a 1/2 thick sheet of plaster board is required.

Everywhere, when you need to divide something up, when making a presentation to a board and using a chart. there are infinete uses for fractions. not everything in the world will be a nice whole number
