k.. find the midpoint of -4 and 7 first (disregarding the other axis for now) which is +1.5 , because the whole span is 11, then divide by 2, which is 5.5: so you could either subtract 5.5 from the 7 OR add 5.5 to the -4: either way it's the midpoint of the 'x' axis.
Then, do the same for the 'Y' axis:
find the midpoint of -9 and -5 ..the difference is 4, and 1/2 of that is 2. So the answer there is -7 for the 'y'.
put the numbers between your anwer's brackets in the correct order (x,y) therefore the answer in this case is: (1.5,-7)

The formula for midpoint is (X1 + X2) divided by 2 and (Y1 + Y2) divided by 2.
Example: (-4 + 7) divided by 2 equals 1.5. That's your X value. In co-ordinate geometry, the first number of the segment is always X.
(-9 + -5) divided by 2 equals -7. That's your Y value.

i usually write it out. like to find the midpoint of x i write -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7and cross out ((answer for x is -5.5 cuz its in the middle)
try doing it for y now
answer-
-9 -8 -7 -6 -5 ---> -7
so (1.5,-7)
btw-there is a formula but seriously-who wants to memorize a formula =]
