It is normal for newborn hair to shed. It will rub off more readilly in the spot on their head that usually lies on the bed. Newborn hair sluffs off and baby hair replaces it. The baby hair gradually becomes more course when they are 4-5 years old.
Cradle cap is a white to yellow scaly scabby substance that builds up on the head of most infants at some point or another. It can be left alone and will gradually clear on it's own unless it is severe. If it is bothering you, a little baby oil and a very gentle scrub with a washcloth will work it off the baby's head a little faster than leaving it alone. Messing with it too much will just upset the baby.
congratulations on your new daughter!

It is pretty common for a baby to lose it's hair. In fact the hair we are born with is replaced completely with new hair within the few months after birth. Babies are just like adults they are all different. My first child lost all his hair at one month and then it all grew back. My second child lost his hair in spurts and it grew back in spurts as well. If you feel concerned call your child's doctor.
As for cradle cap, that is not the cause of hair loss. Cradle cap is best described as a scaly residue on the babies head. It feels somewhat oily to the touch and you may notice it being really flaky after a bath. Cradle cap is harmless. If you baby has this the best thing I found to get rid of it was-take a baby comb dip it lightly in baby oil and comb gently at the cradle cap. But it will go away on it's own. Hope this helps :) Good Luck

My baby's hair is shedding too and It is pretty funny looking because he now has hair only on the sides of his head like a mini-George Costanza hehe. It will grow in in a month or two.
About the cradle cap, I always use a gentle dandruff shampoo and a soft baby sruch in the tub. Something super gentle like Neutrogena's T-gel works great and does not upset baby. My pediatrician suggested it and it works wonders compared to the stuff they sold on the baby aisle. Just be sure to only use a pea size amount.

Hair falling out where the baby's head rests on the mattress is normal. It will grow back -- think of the bare spots as cute. Cradle cap is a kind of yukky oily deposit on the skin of the baby's head. Our pediatrician had us treat it with medicated shampoo and rub till it was really off. Later I felt this was unnecessary and not very nice to do. The baby doesn't mind it, and it will eventually go away.

Craddle cap is a yellowish crust on the scalp. When treating it, hair can also come out. There are products in the baby section but baby oil on it every day and using a baby hairbrush will get it to loosen up.

hair doesnt shed because of cradle cap it comes off because they lay down so much they rub the hair off their heads. Dont worry when they can sit up more and move around it will all grow back. use baby oil and a soft brush to remove the craddle cap though

craddle cap is just dry skin, I used a wash cloth that had been dried on a clothes line so it was a little rough not as soft. I used this and scrubbed gently the craddle cap spot. Do this for a few days and it will be gone. Just be careful for soft spots etc. The cremes do not work. I have tried them. Good luck
