The price is right, no less than 60 Euros, but... there are things you probably do only once in a lifetime, so DO IT and forget about the money
May be you can share the trip with other people, I don't know.

The joke used to be that for the price of one Gondola ride in Venice... you can buy a Trireme in Greece (complete with oarsmen). While it isn't quite that bad, prices are expensive:

Don't hire one that works 20 minute intervals, you'll usually end up paying more (unless you actually go for only 20 minutes).

It was about 100 Euro (91 Euro + Tip) for 50 minutes, the last time I was there.

They are expensive - I doubt that there's much you can do on Valentine's day to lower the price, exept possible to team up with other travelers.

One thing you might consider is a Tragetto ride instead. These "stand up" gondolas cross the Grand Canal at several places for cheap. Check out http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/traghetto.htm for more info

Try to charm one of the gondoliers into lowering the price, but I doubt it's gonna work on Valentine's Day as they will be barraged with high paying customers.
