Well this is my step son that is trying to tell us that he should be getting paid to go to school so he can make better grades. He refuses to go to school and plays sick all the time until the school told him about a truency officer. And told him he can not miss one more day for the rest of the year. I need all opinions about this to show him he can not get paid to go to school till he is in College

Our society can barely pay teachers enough to teach. If the kids had to be paid as well, that would be the end of public education.

A high school is a school for students grades 9 through 12. You claim to be from the UK, so grading might be a little different - I'm not sure. Generally high school is for kids ages 14 1o 17/18.

I pay my son 5 dollars an A and 2 dollars for a B on his report card. He works hard for his grades and I know how hard it is to do I am in College. I also let him get something big if he has all A's and B's on his report card at the end of the year. What I mean by big is a game for the play station or something he wants in about the 50 dollar range . So my anwser is yes if they work hard to get the grades but keep it reasonable.

No, but you realize some kids do get benefits like future education(college) savings, good grade discounts on car insurance, prize money from scholastic activities/contests...etc. People complain about school not having money all the time so it will be bad idea for school to pay kids. Accept one school may be I saw on TV which principle paid kids small amount of money for good attendance, but that was in area with high drop out rate. And that was pretty extreme attempt to keep kids at schoo.

Definetly! If you get paid for going to jobs, then you should definetly get paid for going to school. It would be another way of making kids go to school! Everyone would want to go if you got paid!! I would! Not that i dont go anyway... but it would seem more worthwhile if i got paid! How amazing would that be??
I recon the school should pay because its the employer who pays the employee, and thats kinda the same with school... if you see where i'm coming from?

No. Why should they? They have no bills to pay. Their parents pay for everything for them. Their sole responsibilities are to keep their rooms clean and to go to school. For that they get free room and board, all the food they can eat, and free clothing, school supplies, toys, etc. It seems as though they get paid quite handsomely. It's certainly more than they would make for the same amount of work as an adult in the real world.

Besides, who would foot the bill? The taxpayers, or the parents who each have to work two jobs just to cover living expenses (who, incidentally, are the taxpayers)?

OMG, are you serious?

What kind of message are you trying to send? Get paid for something you sould be grateful to receive?

I have a better idea...eliminate free education. I am so sick of hearing people put the blame and burden on teachers for 1) teaching the kids, 2) Be expected to babysit the kids, and 3) Instill values that should be taught at home.

Parents that fail to teach THEIR OWN KIDS, fail to teach them manners and respect, and appreciate the difficult situation are put in should PAY the school a fee for doing their parental responsibility FOR them.

You do not know the background of the public schools in America. You are so fortunate that every ones tax's pay for the schools. Otherwise you might not get into any good school. Ts say nothing of higher education like high school.you are paid. You get books, teachers, buildings, chalk boards computers, musical instruments. A library and on and on and on. That is a gift to you. You have done nothing to earn it. Good lord i hope some adults in your life educate you before you embarrass yourself

The kids are already getting paid to go to school.

They're getting paid with an education, lunch everyday, social experiences with other children, and a roof over their heads at night. By giving them this free education that they are not paying for, they will go further in life than most of their parents did.

It might be a good incentive for kids to continue to go to school. Like have a fund set up for them that they ONLY collect when they graduate, maybe a percentage. Then get the whole amout if they go on to college.
But, can you imagine how high taxes would increase to cover that cost? Yikes....
Might be better for Parents to cover that cost, though there would always be those that would not be able to afford it.
Good thought though, but maybe not so practical in reality.
Unless you're one of those trust-fund kids....
