You have to determine what is good for you. One resolution I have made for my life this year is to get rid of every toxic relationship to my life. If my relationships/friendships are not fruitful and enriching to both of us at the same time, then what's the point?
I don't know if your bestfriend is male/female but in my situation my ex boyfriend was harrassing and wanting us to remain friends. He cheated, had a baby and moved in with some girl that he'd been seeing before me. I had to take a stand. Deep in my heart I still have feelings for him but then I had to determine who do I love more. I love myself too darn much to let he or anyone else make me end up on a psych ward. All the best.

You should think twice of how much of a good friend this person really is. A good friend wouldnt do this to you, and saying I love you are just words if they say them they should show you also. I think its all about having control on you that they really love. When you tell someone you love them what do you do to make them really feel that you do. Do you try to make them think they are crazy or give them a bunch of bull? If you do everything to make that person feel true honest love then that is what you should expect to get in return and nothing less.

When you're in any kind of relationship and it gets to be too much and it takes too much energy it's best for both people to end the relationship.
Why keep running into a brick wall over and over again.....it's kinda silly and it hurts.

Okay..First of all you this is more than a friendship and he's obliviously afraid of commitment. The thing is you need to decide whether or not you want to be with him. Let's be honest if you weren't interested I would be answering you right now...But if you do want to be with him,you have to sit him down and discuss this. You need to be firm and let him know that he needs to decide whether or not he wants to be with you b/c your not willing to play games or pretend to be just friends...

What's not to know? End the so-called friendship and move on.
