im in new york but not for long. looking into seeing david letterman's show or something which is equally exciting.

They are correct, the other option is knowing someone w the network! You will spend most of the day at the studio, in line, waiting for the audience to be seated.
WELL WORTH the wait!! We got to be in the audience back in 1991 when he was still on NBC, & it was a great experience. The next night we had tix for SNL, talk about a weekend to remember!

Check the CBS website. I know you have to get to the theater early... like 8 or 9 AM.
