Aaaaarrrgghhh!
The horrendous grammar, spelling and syntax on YA! is, in my opinion, the direct result of students not being held accountable for their poor classroom performance.
For example, remember back when you were a student in 7th grade: what would have happened to your English grades if your spelling had been sub-standard? I don't need to hear your answer to know that you would have been in danger of failing.
As to blaming text messaging for poor performance, anyone who was properly taught would be able to spell correctly, even if quizzed while being wheeled into the emergency room on a gurney. It's a miserable excuse, anyway, as it suggests that the individual is spending more time on the stupid phone than on his classwork.
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.
P.S. Your choice of the word "crap" is entirely justified.

I totally agree!!! I asked this question a few weeks ago and got blasted but a couple of cretins that told me to "get a life." Well in my life things are spelled correctly and there are no huge grammatical errors.
Some grammar error are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me (e.g., "W-2s" is right "W-2's" is wrong since the W-2 is plural, not possessive). Also, people can't even use the spell checker.
I don't understand the shorthand that people use like they were text messaging people. It's annoying.
I think people are lazy and they don't care.

Why do you care if somone spells a word wrong. Like Raisins. HUH>? What is the BIG deal? Why do you feel you need to answer other peoples and correct them on grammer with out even answering the question.
What you like to edit? become an editor. ok?
Also, my nut question I asked if they were good for you. Not how much fat was in them. If I wanted to know how much fat I would have looked at the label. But the nuts were in a mix with other things so I couldn't anyway. Thanks for nothing.

Many agree with you, including me-however, using words like "crap" isn't all that terrific either-try and find words to espress that thought without resorting to it.
Even as irritating as bad spelling/grammer is how often people use "you know?"!

No. It has to do with typing fast, thinking fast and half paying attention. I am normally watching tv, talking to someone, sometimes on the phone, etc...
