I will be getting a free upgrade disc of Windows Vista Home premium in the mail soon. My computer is an eMachines T5212 running Windows XP MCE 2005, 1 GB RAM (128 MB is shared with onboard video) and a Pentium D 805 dual core processor at 2.6 GHz. I plan to get a dedicated video card and upgrade to 2 Gigs of RAM in the future but I would like to run it now.

I ran the upgrade advisor and it said that my printer cable modem and video card had no compatibility data does this mean they won't work if I upgrade?

If you are going to be getting a Vista Home Premium Disk, its probelly because they know its compaitable with your computer so yes, also, you may want to see if you like some of the features and make sure it works for what you need it. I would go for the 2 gigs of RAM. I dont think that the Printer, Cable, and modem will work with Vista right away but, they may work in the future. I know I had the beta version of Vista, and I liked it and it said that my printer wouldn't work but I had my printer installed as a network printer and unlike XP, it found it auto without having to do anything and I used it with an emachine as well. Good Luck

Although 512MB is the minimum for Vista, 1GB is the notch above that you want to be at. So yes, make sure you get a dedicated video card at some point.
Any dual-core is going to help, so you're fine in the CPU department. Your PC meets the standard, but the real question is the risk of compatibility and bugs.
Chances are that some of your programs are not going to work or require upgrades. You also need to double-check that all your hardware is compatible driver wise. It might be better to wait out the upgrade for a couple months and read the reactions of the consensus. That will give you an idea of what to be on the lookout for.

Since it's an eMachines, I'm willing to bet the supplier of the chipset won't be willing to write a WDDM driver for it, so you probably won't be able to use the fancy Aero interface. The rest of your specs are fine. Once you upgrade your memory and video card, you should be able to run all Vista features.

I strongly suggest that you wait because often than not the bugs will still have to worked out. Wait for about a year or two so that the errors or holes can be worked out. Anyways, I don't that the on board will do you any good because of the Aero Graphics Interface. Trust me, and wait. PC World and Computer Shopper said to wait as well.

Are you a gamer? If so, an upgrade is smart for the Direct X 10 support alone. Is it urgent? Probably not. I don't plan to upgrade until at least this summer.
Sweet rig, by the way.

The initial release of any version of Windows is always full of bugs, wait until Service Pack 1 is released. (Microsoft is already working on SP 1)
