Well, of course! After Kurt died, the grunge scene no longer had a head group.... shame, but after all, 'It's better to burn out than to fade away....' So Kurt burned out and the grunge scene faded away, I guess.

You don't see too many kids wearing flannel these days. And just look what happened after Kurt died...Alice In Chains broke up...Smashing Pumpkins broke up...Soundgarden broke up..all that was left was Pearl Jam...and I believe Vedder really bowed down to Kurt (Immortality on VS. is about Kurt). So grunge I believe is gone. I think the Foo Fighters are good...but don't hold a candle to Nirvana. After Kurt died...a lot of the music scene went down with him. I really hate the new music scene...so I prefer to listen to the old rock and grunge. But just now I can only think of the groundbreaking albums that could have been made had Courtney not had him killed...oops I mean had Kurt not shot himself...no, i was right the first time. We all miss Kurt.

Nirvana was one of the only bands that was purly grunge...Alice in Chains had a much heavier element along with STP and Pearl Jam...The Smashing Pumpkins were very borderline grunge..so basically...yes, it died when Nirvana died

Grunge wasn't specific enough for anyone to really tell what it was supposed to be other than rock. There was a crappy fasion element to it, but musically it's not easily defined, I just lump it in with post punk myself.

One think I feel Nirvana really did was create a difference between Indie and 'Alternative'. I suppose if he hdn't shot himself they would have either dissolved or eventually got really lame.

Oh and Foo Fighters suck, peace.

Grunge emerged in response to the Glam/Hair Metal movement of the 80's. But eventually "grundge" became mainstream and then the next "new" thing comes along. In the words of Billy Joel, "...its still rock n roll to me!".
