If you mention exactly which computer you have, that would help a lot. Is is a G4 tower, 3-4 years old? Did you move it or bump it recently? Did you add more RAM or add a new video card or PCI card? This sounds like either a power management unit (PMU) issue or a processor issue.

First try resetting the PMU. Follow the appropriate link below.

Try reseating the processor if you are very skilled in computer hardware stuff. If not, take it to any authorized Apple service facility and ask them to reseat the processor. If that doesn't fix it, ask them to swap the processor with a known good one and see if it starts up fine.

Hello Gee,

You are going to need to take your Mac and its monitor into a service place and have them look at it, Gee. You haven't given us enough information to really go by. It sounds like the monitor is off, or not working, but if it's more complicated than that, then it's something that a technician needs to work on.

Best of luck to you.

Imac or iBook? if iBook, take the battery out and let it sit for about 20 minutes...if desktop, you might need to dust it..blow out with canned air...if fan is on, I am betting that the computer is powered on but the monitor is staying black..power buttons lit up?

desktop or laptop? if desktop unplug it for a few Min's and try again. if laptop take battery out for a few Min's and try again. if no joy take it to the apple shop. but make sure you have loads of cash with you.

you can call the apple headquartes in CA. something like that happened to my mom. her light bulb was just burned out. try to hold it up to the light, and see if it is that. also, if its old, g3 or g4, or even older (a clam shell?) it might just be dead. it is not like apple to do that. hmmmmm. i am very happly with my mac. 12 inch, powerbook g4. i like it. it is cute.
whatever you do, promice you will never, NEVER get a pc!
good luck!

Take it in to your local apple store. They'll be happy to help you, and they'll be really informative and they'll lay down all your options for you.
