first person to give me an answer that works, and HOW they got it gets the 10 points.

thats the sqare root of -13 times square root of -26

i x i = i^2 = -1
i x i x i = = i^3 = -i
i x i x i x i = i^4 = 1

The answer to your question is -13 times the square root of 2

How did i come up with that?
Well lets factor out a -1 under each radical. Taking the radical of a -1 leaves us with (i) or an imaginary number. Because we have two of these i's that we multiply by each other, we can set i*i = -1.
No we can put that out in front and use the following:
the rule is as follows:
a^x*b^x = (a*b)^x
in your case, a = 13, b = 26, x = 1/2 or .5 (this is also a square root)
So you are left with:
-1 * (13*26)^.5
this can be reduced to:
-13 * radical(2)

radical -13 = i radical 13
readical -26 = i radical 26 = 2 * 13

i squared = -1 radical 2*13*13 = 13 radical 2

= -13 radical 2. Been a long time I could be wrong.

The math teacher doesn't want a answer from a calculator.


I do wonder about this. radical a * radical b = radical a*b
In this case 2*-13*-13 = a positive number or 13 radical 2. However since there are negative numbers in the radicals I would think you have to use the imaginary numbers.

okay here it goes.

(Radical -13)(Radical -26)

Radical 338

and thats it!

You can times numbers that are inside the sqaure root sign together, in this case making them positive. radical 338 does not reduce. If you want the answer in a decimal it is 18.38477631....

the answer is 13 times the squared root of 2

the sqaure root of -13 is the same as square root of 13 times i
the sqaured root of -26 is the same as square root of 26 times i
so its the square root of 13 times the square root of 26 times i squared
and i squared is the same as -1
so the answer is 13 times the square root of 2

you get radical 13i * radical 26i, (i is square root of -1). i^2 is equal to -1 so this comes out to be: -13 * square root 2

The answer is no solution, radiclal -13 is an imaginary number, you can't multiply a number by it's self and get a negative number. (+)(+)=+ (-)(-)=+
