Factor whatever is inside the square root. 10 sqrt(40) = 10 sqrt(4 * 10) = 10 sqrt(2 *2 * 10) 2 * 2 is a perfect square, so you can take it out of the square root. 10 * 2 * sqrt (10) = 20 sqrt (10). That's as simple as it gets :)
