I wouldn't recommend it - you can use your last pay stub but if the employer did some last minutes corrections that they discovered, the amount that you report on your return will be different than when they report of the IRS. That will give you a mess of trouble.

Besides, you only have a short time before you will get your W-2. They have to mail it by 1/31/2007.

You can compute your tax return without a W-2, assuming that you have a final pay stub, but I certainly wouldn't file the return until you receive it. Sometimes, depending on your work situation, there are adjustments that are made to the W-2 at year end (car allowances, life insurance adjustments, etc.) that can change the year end numbers. Also, the IRS wants all supporting documents attached to the return that show federal withholding. So, don't rush it. You'll have your W-2 within the next week anyway.

Not a good idea. Go to the Payroll Dept. and demand
your W2. The law says they must send it out by Jan 31st.
They are probably waiting until the last minute.I have griped
to my payroll Supv. tho in the past and received mine ahead
of the others.
