These are the usual ages for school...there may be some variations:

Kindergarten: 5-6
First grade: 6-7
2nd: 7-8
3rd: 8-9
4th: 9-10
5th: 10-11
6th: 11-12
7th: 12-13
8th: 13-14
9th: 14-15 (Freshman)
10th: 15-16 (sophomore)
11th: 16-17 (junior)
12th: 17-18 (senior)

k-5th is called elementary school
6-8 is typically middle school
9-12 is typically high school

Kids in special ed can be ungraded and stay in school until 21 depending on their disability

This is the standard, some kids are held back or start early, fail or skip a grade, etc... obviously.

Kindergarten 5-6yrs. old
1st grade 6-7
2nd 7-8
3rd 8-9
4th 9-10
5th 10-11
6th 11-12
7th 12-13
8th 13-14
9th (freshman) 14-15
10th (sophomore) 15-16
11th (junior) 16-17
12th (senior) 17-18

WAY back in the day K-8 was considered grade school and then you entered high school.

Then, they added Junior High, which was typically 7th-9th grade.

Now the standard is K-5 is Elementary School, 6-8 is Middle School, and 9-12 is High School

Occasionally I see middle schools that are 5-8

Normally like this:
Elementary School years
Kindergarten-5 years old
1st grade-6 years old
2nd grade-7 years old
3rd grade-8 years old
4th grade-9 years old
5th grade-10 years old

Middle School years
6th grade-11 years old
7th grade-12 years old
8th grade-13 years old

High School
9th grade-14 years old
10th grade-15 years old
11 th grade 16 years old
12th grade 17 years old

and by the time school ends your last year you would usually turn 18. Some kids don't start kindergarden till they are 6 years old. And 12 grade is the last one for school. But that's the jist if it all. Hope this helps.

In the United States the school system is set up that in the 10th grade a student entering should be turning 15 years old the year they are entering and 16 years old when the year finished.

Good Luck!!!

In America, children are required to go to school from Kindegarten through 12th grade.

Most children are 5 years old when they begin kindegarten, possibly 6.
Elementary schools have kindegarten-5th graders.

Middle school (junior high) is for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

Senior high is for: 9th graders (freshmen)
10th graders (sophmores)
11th graders (Juniors)
12th graders (Seniors)

After that, the graduates may attend college (university), a technical school, join the military or get a job.
