Bought 3-4 goldfish just to add some decoration to my room. Is there any chance that these fish will breed? I only bought them for about a quarter each so I wasn't sure

If you have comets, you will need a tank that allows 20 gallons MINIMUM PER fish. For now, while they're still "feeders," you can get away with 10 gallons of water per fish, but plan on upgrading once they reach about 3 inches in length. Once they start getting up to 6 or 8 or more inches, you need to start thinking about allowing 40 gallons of water PER fish. This is because goldfish are huge waste producers and foul the water very, very easily. I think for now, you have bigger things to worry about besides breeding. Please read the articles and sections on this site to learn how to take care of your fish. As far as breeding, I have had goldfish of one kind or another for over 15 years, both fast and fancy and out of all of those fish and all of those years, I only had one comet lay eggs once. And even then, none of them hatched. Thank God!!! I removed them before they did. So, plain and simply, yes, if you have males and females, yes, there is a chance that they will breed/lay eggs, but they need to be older and in perfect water conditions and, frankly, in the mood.

Venice Girl is correct.
The little goldfish you have got yourself are gonna grow into monsters, providing you give them the right environment. The ideal environment for a comet, is a several thousand gallon pond with pond filtration. They're not really suited to a tank environment, they need cool water, very powerful filtration, and they're real poop machines! You're going to have to keep up on your water changes or risk losing them to ammonia poisoning.

A healthy goldfish should live around 30 years. The oldest on record was a comet, and he was 42 when he died.

Fish are living creatures, not decorations! They've been on this planet a lot longer than we have, we could at least show them some respect by providing them the amount of space they need to thrive hehe.

1-3 inch comets need 20 gallons per fish at that size, 125+ gallons as adults. Yes comets are the feeder goldfish, long pointed tails. They will be too young to breed, maybe they will as adults, but chances are you have all females, feeder fish have a large ratio of females.

They would breed if kept several years and in the right conditions so that they grow to several inches at least. They breed in the late Spring and the 1000s of eggs hatch in 2-3 days. Usually this is done in shallow ponds.

It just happens.... goldfish as feeders arent healthy for your fish at all, they have almost no nutritional value in them.. it just fills another fishes stomach... not doing anything for it.

Yep and once they start look out. I tossed a bunch of breeder comets into my out side pond, I could not give them away fast enough.

I use them to feed my eel, but even he couldn't eat that much.

a quarter is way too expensive for feeder fish, and comet are not feeders, comet are much larger and are a different breed of goldfish.
All things breed, it is just a matter of time. if they didnt the species would go extinct.
you cant exactly neutar something smaller than your finger nail without killing it.
so yes they will breed, but theyll probably die before then within a week probably. They dont live long
