are you getting tired of seeing black men dress up as fat or old black women in movies? Eddie Murphy's new movie "Norbit". Tyler Perry's character 'Madea" and Martin Lawrence "Big Momma".
I think it is becoming insulting to African American women. Maybe I am being to critical but I am beginning to find it demeaning to our beautiful black women to be portrayed in such a way.

Matt P I suggest you learn to spell the word "beautiful" before you start spewing insults. I stand by the phrase beautiful black women. I am not a homophobe but maybe you are the one that is confused about your sexuality. You went there. I didn't.

flacocajuncujo...How do you know the person would be flattered? That is an assumption that should not be made unless you personally know the people they are basing their character on.

Amen! I totally agree with all that your saying. Also, I am tired of every movie involving African Americans in the hood, gun violence, on drugs etc. Who can we blame though...it's up to the actors to say "no way, I am not playing that particular role". Just like Dave Chappelle (he took a stand not to dress like a woman in a dress etc.)

Beau M, I was thinking the same damn thing the other day when I saw his new movie advertising! It's like he's become obsessed with portraying Black Women heavy and as we can all see, he's not the only one! I would like to know... what's behind it all? Yet they date these tooth-pick looking Women. I feel like Black Women are being laughed at in Hollywood. Oprah should do a story on this subject. She'd set them straight! This is getting too repetitive. It's also sending a very negative signal. What are they thinking? I'm especially shocked at Eddie Murphy. Probably because I held a great respect for him as a Comedian. I don't see the concept of it at all. You are absolutely right!

You know I haven't really thought about it like this. But I must agree.
They are starting to go overboard with this. I hope they stop doing this soon.
Tyler's "Madea" isn't as insulting as Martin's and Eddie's Characters. Of course, I base my opinion of Eddie's character on the movie previews they are showing. I have no desire to ever see this movie.
I also disagree with Matt P. The phrase "beautiful black woman" is not demeaning. It is a fact. And how the H*E*L*L he arrived at homophobe, only his momma would know. LOL

Oh quit stereotyping the females in your community. You know damn well the phrase "beautifult black women" is just as demeaning. Was Moms Mabley beautiful? Is Whoopi Goldberg beautiful? NO! they're character actresses whose specialty was being funny, just like Eddie Murphy & Martin Lawrence in drag. Drag humor has been around for over a hundred years. Get over your bigoted self. We know what you're ***really*** talking about, homophobe.

I haven't heard anyone complaining about these characters. Remember these are characters and isn't imitation a form of flattery? Usually actors come up with these characters based on someone they knew and usually this person knows the actor is portraying them and they are flattered not insulted.
