I currently have a 17'' (not wide) LCD monitor and I want to upgrade to a 19'' widescreen monitor without hurting my wallet too much (<$200 ish).

That is the website that compares the two monitors. The Samsung one is only 500:1 contrast ratio while Acer has 700:1, but more people have bought the Samsung one and it's retail price is more expensive. Samsung has a DVI input which may affect me in the future (?). Is a DVI input really important? Is the contrast ratio really important? What is the deal with the refresh rates? Which company is a better choice and which monitor would be best for gaming, watching movies, etc. I want the best bang for my buck, and I want to be extremely satisfied with my choice!! Please help me choose! Thank you.

The Samsung is superior. The only factor that the Acer is better on is the contrast ratio. The Samsung has a smaller pixel pitch (sharper image) and its response time is lower. Also note on its response time it is 4ms GTG. GTG stands for gray to gray, which is a much more realistic measurement of performance than the usualy measurement method. 4ms GTG is excellent. Also it has a wider viewing angle, this deals with when you are looking at the monitor from the side, at a wide angle, the picture will begin to degenerate, so the larger the viewing angle, the better. Lastly, DVI is very good to have, it is a digital connection as opposed to D-SUB which is analog.

I think samsung is the better choice Contrast ratio is important only if you are using the LCDs outdoors or in a very brightly lit area. Yes, DVI is important since most video cards use this for better resolution. high refresh rate reduces flicker.

Insignia panels are made by ability of LG yet are a terrific purchase purely type and could be prevented in case you like your television to final. Samsung is an extremely intense rated type with solid high quality and a greater powerful image. the only undertaking is computer screen and HDTV resolutions are fairly distinctive so make beneficial that the Samsung computer screen can play your 1080p and if it could pass with that for beneficial. i could enormously advise against the Insignia.
