None. He was dead when Bush invaded Iraq.

Thats a really long question. He was President when we declared war on Japan. Many think he knew Japan was going to bomb pearl harbor. Many think he gave the Russians too much at Yalta. So he was still alive at the end of the war in Europe.
But he was dead by the time Truman dropped the big one on the Japanese.

So asking what role did he play without being a little bit more specific is tough. But he was commander in chief for almost the entire World War II. Which by the way lasted a shorter amount of time for us then the current FUBAR in Iraq.

and during WWII while he was president, all four of his sons served and fought in the war.

and John served in the navy until 1946.

Well, if you're referring to WWll, he played the role of the President of the USA, the best damned country in the world. What role did you play?

Commander in Chief of the United States and one of the "Big Three" leaders of the Allies. As I am sure you are talking about WWII.
