a comparison between two things, based on resemblance or similarity, without using "like" or "as" is what a metaphor is. And an example of this would be: The movie struck a spark that massaged the audience's conscience. See how you dont use like or as, thats a metaphor.Hope this helps, good luck writing and God bless.

A metaphor is when they say that one thing IS another thing.

Here's a poem that is LOADED with metaphors:
The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding-
