okay, so I'm on our prom committee, and I really need help!!! I'm supposed to find thrones for the king and queen, where the Hell can i get a throne?!!? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say lawn chairs.. But please.. DON'T make it a laid-back 'beach' theme. Prom is supposed to be FORMAL.
Anyway.
Grab some cheap lawn chairs, from Wal-Mart, Home Depot, wherever. Cover them with elegant fabric.. Maybe something along the lines of dark red velvet with Gold enscripture (You can get fabric for cheap at Wal-Mart or Joann's). You can apply the fabric with hot glue gun.. Or if you know someone that's good at reupholstering, That would be even better. You can buy some strips of faux fur, and glue/otherwise attach it to the borders of the chair.. Maybe put an elegant throw pillow on the seat as a 'cushin', to make it look more "Throne-like".
Get together with the other members of your prom comittee, and brainstorm. But I do suggest using folding lawn chairs (Or any other kind of Lawn furniture... Maybe wicker chairs?) Lawn furniture is usually super cheap right now, as it's not in season (it's Janurary, you know).

Go to a Michael's store or some sort of a arts and craft store. You can always buy a wreath tear it apart and put it back together. Buy other items to make thrones. Depending on the theme.
Think be creative ! If this is your job they must trust you so open your mind.
Go craft store and find something you would use for thrones to make a crown.

just get a regular chair and cover it with some beautiful material. then maybe tie a big ribbon around it. that's what they do at wedding receptions for the bride's chair. it looks really nice.

Get a couple of big chairs and drape them with a gold brocade fabric. Adorn them with big ropes and tassels in jewel tones.

wow, ah good question...the only place that comes to mind is spencers. they always have the weird off the wall stuff. maybe call them and ask if you can get them thru them.
