To protect my computer I have the following:

System Mechanic 7
AVG Free Edition
Ad Aware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Avast! Antivirus
Spysweeper

I think I may have a bit too much... which ones would you say I should get rid of? Which ones are the better ones?

I'm so confused!

let us categorize them
-avast antivirus (you will need one)
-avg free (is it antivirus or antispyware?, you do not need two anti virus softwares, so remove it if it is an antivirus, keep if it is antispyware)
-ad aware, spybot, are antispywares, they do not have realtime scanner, so you can use any number of programs that do not have a real time scanner.
-about spysweeper , if it has a realtime protection, you can keep it as it will be the only antispyware on your computer with real time protection.
-System Mechanic7 , (If you are using professional version of it then you do not need another antivirus, so either keep this one or avast, as far as I can see, you should keep Avast antivirus, as it is more advanced antivirus, if you are using its regular version without an antivirus then you can remove spysweeper. IF you decide to remove SM7 instead then To compensate the features of SM7 you can get ccleaner)

I have AVG the paid edition($49 for 2 years) because it has a fire wall and Ad Aware. You need a firewall. The AVG free doesn't have one. We have had these for a year now and have not gotten any viruses.

We had Norton before these and got a virus anyway that froze up our computer and it cost us $139 to get it removed. I would stay away from Norton.

pretty much anything u got off the internet for free is probably spy or adware except spysweeper unless u got it from another site then spysweeper.com but evrything else should be okay but u could just do a search on google for trojan horse (computer) and see a list of programs that are trojan horses. if u dont know what those r those r disguised viruses that will start running programs without them coming up on ur screen because it gives them ur login and it ultimately shuts ur comp down until u do a full system reboot

first question
is system mechanic 7 the professional?
if so..it comes with antivirus and firewall
u need to have
1 firewall
1 antivirus
2 antispy
these are the ones i would use
oops..one more ?
is webroot spysweeper paid for...or trial version?
i would keep
avast
spysweeper
spybot
if system mech is not the professional....i would keep that also
avg is aantivirus...remove it,,,u are using avast
ad-aware is ok...but u have spybot and webroot spysweeper

i never heard of any of those besides spysweeper and spybot search and destroy but maybe since they are both anti-spyware delete one of those and keep only one anti-spyware program and then do the same thing with an antivirus program..i suggest you keep spysweeper and Avast! Antivirus, so now you have an anti virus and an anti-spyware, maybe keep system mechanic cuz it seems that it cleans your computer, but idk its your choice

if you have windows you can go here http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm it will clean your computer of viruses, spyware, worms and mostly everything and without installing anything (it takes a while to clean though)

I would get rid of all of them and install Norton. Never trusted those anti spywares/adwares much...
