If not, how do you measure a man's wealth?

Not I, that's for ages gone by. Wealth cannot be measured, in my opinion. A person can be very poor and be happy with what they have. They consider themselves wealthy. Wealth embraces more than monetary things. Health and happiness are two that can't be measured but can make a person feel extremely wealthy. I, on the other hand...am not wealthy in the monetary sense OR the health and happy sense..lol.

Heck no... but the more children he has, certainly the less wealth he has...

I measure it by his investment accounts and lack of liabilities.
