The part about germs getting in is just a myth. When you are on your period, nothing is different about your vagina structurally that would allow germs in easily. The only difference is that your menstrual blood is exiting through it.
Your vagina has natural micro-organisms- GOOD bacteria and GOOD yeast, that keep each other in balance - so it is naturally self-cleaning. (FYI, yeast infections happen when antibiotics or something like that kills off the good bacteria and the yeast grows out of control. So yes, yeast is normal.)
As for showering while bleeding, what's the big deal if it gets on the floor of the shower? The water washes it away. Although, I usually keep a little wad of toilet paper or something for when I step out, and that's enough to dry off before I put use a pad or tampon.

You take a shower just like any other time. I always have and I am 44.
If you don't wear tampons - the flow stops when you're in the shower. Dry off with an old towel because you'll be bleeding again and put on your protection right away.
Your mom is very wrong. You have to keep yourself clean during your period or you'll get germs from being dirty. When was she born - the stone age? My mom is 81 and she does not think of such a stupid thing as that.

It sounds like you are very young and have no experience yet.
A period is not free flowing. So a shower works just fine as always. It makes you all fresh and clean, ever where. Then if using tampons you change or put on a fresh pad.
Actually taking a tub bath is much worse in terms of germs entering your VA JJ.
You deal with it by getting adjusted to doing it your way. In a life time till menopause the average women will have 480 periods.

Its not true about the germs going on your body, your period is just the lining of your uterus shedding because you did not get pregnant, every month the lining gets thicker in anticipation of a pregnancy and when this doesn't happen, your body gets rid of it. As far as the blood being that heavy that it interferes with you taking a shower, then consider using a tampon which will absorb the flow of your period, instead of increasing as the warmth of the water will cause it to increase.

This is not true. Your cervix is closed and there is a high acidic vaginal environment to protect against bacteria.Hygiene is more important than ever when you're on your period. Not showering or washing your hair during this time came from an Old Wive's Tale. As for a heavy flow, usually it should slow while showering. If you're taking really warm or hot showers, that may affect the heaviness of your flow. If yours seems really heavy, perhaps see a GYN.

It is perfectly fine to shower when you are menstruating. You should, especially down there, because you need to keep it clean. I just hop in the shower and do my normal routine. Germs don't go into your body like that, especially with the menstrual flow coming OUT of it. Its also ok to take a bath while menstruating.

It is safe to shower during your period no matter how heavy it is. Actually it stops my flow until I get out of the shower. Then I find it reduces my cramps for awhile.

i've been told its better to take cooler showers while on your period, but i dont know how true this is. do you wear tampons? you could wear one while youre in the shower if youre really bleeding that badly. you might want to consider birth control to help minimize bleeding so much. its helped me a lot. i went from 2 heavy weeks to 3-4 light days. hardly any cramps too. its been wonderful!

Your mom is wrong, honey. There is nothing wrong with showering when you have your period. The warm water often makes you feel better, and feeling clean is good too. Shower all you want to.
