How many centimeters in one meter? 100
You have 40 of them so it is 40/100.
If you have to reduce you take the last zero off.
Any number that ends in 0 can be divided by 10.
So now you have 4/10. You can still reduce that to 2/5.
Now you owe me 2 points...oh thanks.

Oh, Amy, these are so easy but, clearly, not to you! To express these fractions as a mixed number, you must divide the top number (the numerator) by the bottom number (the denominator). a) nine sixths = 9/6. 6 divides into 9 1 time and there is 3 left over, so we now have 1 3/6 We can cancel down further if the top and bottom numbers have a common denominator, in this case it is 3. Divide the top and bottom numbers by 3 to get 1 1/2 So the answer to a) is 1 1/2 (One and a half) Try the rest of Q1 for yourself. Clock question: a) 8:15 - 9:45 Time difference is 1 and a half hours. Since a full turn of the minute hand is 1 hour, or 60 minutes, for 1 1/2 hours the minute hand goes through 1 1/2 turns. You could answer this by converting the time difference to minutes, expressing as a fraction in 60th's (minutes in an hour) then writing as a mixed number. e.g. a) 8:15 - 9:45 Total minutes = 90 Fraction 90/60# Following the rule in Q1 we get 1 30/60, which cancels down to 1 1/2 fraction of a metre: a) 675/1000 (1000 cm in a metre) Cancel down by dividing by 25 to get 27/40 fraction of a kilogram b) 4450/1000 (1000g in a Kg) Follow the steps in Q1 to get 4 450/1000 Cancel down by dividing the fraction by 50 We now get 4 9/20 To learn and understand, try the rest for yourself.

Well, the word 'centi' means out of a hundred. (?/100)
So, you can assume 40 'centi' means 40/100.
Of course, you can cross out a zero on the top,(4/100)
With a zero on the bottom.(4/10)
To simplify the fraction even more ,you need to find a number that divides into 4 and 10. That number is 2.
2 divides into 4 twice.(2/?)
And 2 divides into ten 5 times. (?/5)
Which gives: 2/5
To work out the decimal, you need to times the bottom number with another number to make the bottom number 100.
As so: 2/5 = 5 x 20 equals 100.
You also need to times the top number with whatever number you have multiplied the bottom number with.
That number was 20.
As so: 5 x 20 equals 100 (?/100)
- 2 x 20 equals 40 (40/?)
=40/100
In a decimal if the number is out of a hundred, you put 0.?
Since the number we have is 40 out of 100,we need to put the number 40 after the decimal as it is not a whole number.
(40 is part of a whole (100))
As so: 0.40
But, because there is not number after the 4, you do not need the zero. It is non-significant. But you can put it if you want.
= 0.4
ANSWER : 40/100, 4/10, 40%, >2/5<, 0.4 or 0.04
Key:>< means best answer to your question.
(Just a hint: you can also put 40% as % means out of 100)
I hope I helped you because it took me a very long time to write all these facts :)
