I'm trying to get my 2 month old on a schedule. I would like him to take 3 naps a day about 1 1/2 hours long each per the books I've been reading. I feel aweful waking him up from his naps and he's really unhappy about it, but should i wake him up? What's the best way to wake him up - changing his diaper? Will it cause him to eventually automatically wake up after 1 1/2 hours from his naps?

I periodically wake my 9 week old up from naps during the day if she gets to the 3 1/2 hour mark since the start of her last feeding. However, she's not unhappy about it, she just eats and then is awake and alert, if she were unhappy when I woke her I might rethink it. After the last feeding of the night we let her go until she wakes up on her own, generally 6-7 hours.

I never let my newborn sleep more than 2 hours at a time during the day so that her long stretch of sleep would be at night. I started this when she was 4 days old and it worked the first day. I would wake her up and feed her during the day after she slept 2 hours.

I have a 5 week old and was told to not wake him up anymore because I was waking him up every 2 to 3 hours.

Let the baby determine what the sleep schedule will be, at this age, it is about what is best for him, not you, and he will let you know. Focus on helping him sleep through the night and his daytime pattern will adjust. Forcing him to your schedule and waking him up before he is ready will only cause problems in the long run.

A 2 month old knows when they need to eat and sleep. Let your baby be in charge of the schedule for now :)

At 2 months old, he is following his own schedule, so it is best not to wake him unless he needs to wake up to eat. There is plenty of time for sleep training later.

I have learned you have to make you own routine depending on your baby's personality and habits, don't relay on the books. The only time I ahve woken my kids up from naps is when they were babies I would wake them up a few hours before I put them to bed, and as toddlers not to sleep passed 3pm.

Throw out the books and follow the baby's cues and make adjustments when needed. A baby will sleep a lot at that age and all baby's have different needs. You will drive yourself nuts trying to follow the books. I tried to keep my little guy awake one day cuz I thought he'd sleep more at night. he was miserable all day and all night. I gave that up fast. Enjoy your little one and be flexible.

The only person who can make your baby's sleep schedule is your baby. Let him sleep when he's tired, eat when he's hungry, etc. He will form a schedule all on his own, and it will be much easier to follow if you let him decide.
